Sony’s PS4 VR Solution All But Confirmed To Be Shown At GDC

yoshidaps4

We’re now on-site at GDC and as things are about ot kick-off, I was given a tip by a developer that Sony will be showing their VR solution off during tomorrows “Driving the Future of Innovation” presentation. During the hour-long talk, Shuehei Yoshida will be joined by Richard Marks and Anton Mikhailov of Sony R&D.

When I picked up my press badge and notified the staff I would be filming, I was told that filming of any kind wouldn’t be permitted during the session; this being the only session during the entirety of GDC that clause is associated with.

Honestly, I wouldn’t have run with the story on the tip alone, but the fact that R&D will be joining the president of SCE Worldwide Studios in a closed session that restricts filming all but confirms the tip. It’s possible that the heavy delays that have been levied against the release of PS4 exclusive Driveclub will become clearer tomorrow evening. All signs point to Sony being ready to drop a bombshell on the home console market tomorrow night.

NOTE: The original story had a typo with the session happening this evening that has been amended.

And when released, all but confirmed to flop. There won’t be enough devs utilizing it to ever make it worthwhile and no doubt about it, the price will be high. Sony also has a bad track record with peripherals in that they stop supporting them in a years time. VR is a gimmick, not just that but a niche gimmick, it will flop in a major way.

Bloody nora, you AGAIN? uber troll extraordinaire!

I completely disagree about your opinion on VR, Oculus Rift has already gained significant traction, not to mention it’s only around $300 to get one, I’m sure Sony is smart enough to at least match that, if they didn’t, well then yes, sales would most likely be low because the average consumer wouldn’t really understand it; but if the price is right and the message is made clear and they make sure the average consumer knows EXACTLY what it does and how amazing it is, it’ll sell like crazy and you can guarantee there’s gonna be a lot of people wanting one, one of those people will be me, that is if this is actually going to be a thing.

Who pissed in your coffee, it’s going to be great. You lack imagination. :) I dont understand all the Sony Hater’s. Sony are leaders and innovators. They had some bad times but I see a future where L.G, Samsung and Apple will all be picking Cherries from Sony’s tree once again.

Just another proprietary crap from Sony.

      Another Sony Hating Troll..

The anticipation is crazy, I mean we were told it would be unveiled at last two big events. and then I was under the impression the announcement would come early today, again it is evening. Pretty sure this will be demo’d with drive club and packaged for a bundle release. Fingers x’d

I am still unsure about this, I want the 3D effects, better than on 3D TVs, but I don’t want to wear the helmet for long periods of time… maybe it will be comfy enough to change my mind… we will have to see if this is not another failed attempt at true 3D games :-/ (there has been various attempts since the NES/Sega Master days)
