Nintendo Confirms Integrated Console/Handheld Next-Gen Tech
Rumors have been floating about that Nintendo has been working to marry their console and handheld hardware into one integrated experience. During a recent investors call, Nintendo confirmed that, as of last year, had merged their R&D divisions into one team,
Last year Nintendo reorganized its R&D divisions and integrated the handheld device and home console development teams into one division under Mr. Takeda.
The company also stated that the integration will be deep enough where the two devices won’t be seen as separate as they have in the past,
home consoles and handheld devices will no longer be completely different, and they will become like brothers in a family of systems.
This is Nintendo’s solution to their fan base being divided by different pieces of hardware. The strategy moving forward for Nintendo has to be something innovative that also appeals to the core audience. An audience that was almost wholly overlooked by the Wii and Wii U.
What they seem to be aiming for is a universal operating system that can span multiple devices and merge the two experiences together effectively. The iOS and Android operating system is cited within the verbiage as an integrated OS that spans an array of hardware.
