The PS4 Can Execute Several Voice Commands Without The PS Camera

PS4Headset

It’s been discovered via the PS4 online manual that the device can execute several voice commands without the need for the PS Eye peripheral. And through user experimentation, a few more functions have been uncovered.

Default uses outlined by Sony:

Home Screen – “PlayStation, go home.”

Screenshot – “PlayStation, take screenshot.”

Log in – “PlayStation, log in.”

User discovered:

Standby – “PlayStation, power, standby”

Booting up a game – “PlayStation, Resogun.”

Many people may beg the question; why is this such a big deal when you are already holding the controller? Kinect offers voice commands without the use of a controller, but the Xbox itself doesn’t allow for any type of voice commands without it. In my line of work, taking a screenshot in-game without having to input anything with my fingers is a real nice addition. It’s also great to have the feature present without the purchase of the PS Eye peripheral. We’ll literally be trying to figure out new voice commands all evening, and will update with anything new.

Why didn’t Sony tell users about this feature? I can only think they were worried about the “spying” aspect. Surely they should have known that just having the console listening to you isn’t what all the uproar was about, The reason the Xone initially got so much flack was because you had to have it online once in a 24 hour period, you had to have it online the whole time when playing on someone elses machine AND the fact that it has built it a voice recording and camera. The PS4 was never said to be “always” online, so i don’t see why this was not known earlier, there wouldn’t have been much of an issue, not for the general population at least, maybe from some MS fanboys, saying “see?! The PS4 does the same”

This is really cool tho, It seems to have just enough commands (and we probably will learn some more in the future, or even have some more implemented) to actually have it be handy without it going overboard. I can see hardcore gamers using these because all they do is add convenience, there is no flair with it right now.

Y didn’t they? Because it can’t do anything yet. So far all it can do is home and start a few apps or your game. Not much to brag about.
I hope they make it so you can talk a whole text thing out like the iPhone voice to text.
