PlayStation 4 Title DRIVECLUB Delayed, No Longer Part Of PS4 Launch

SCE Worldwide Studios and Evolution Studios have announced that the PlayStation 4 launch title DRIVECLUB is being pushed into early 2014. If you’ve been following the PS4 news closely you’ll know two things immediately. DRIVECLUB was set to accompany the PlayStation 4 at launch, and it was also primed as one of the PlayStation Plus Instant Game Collection titles. Only one of those facts will truly change, the other is just happeneing at a later date. DRIVECLUB will still be free to PlayStation Plus members as part of the Instant Game Collection when it releases. A brief statement from Shuhei Yoshida (President, SCE Worldwide Studios) accompanied the news,

DRIVECLUB is a really ambitious racing title and the game is looking stunning. The extra time we’re giving the team means the visuals and overall experience are only going to get better. We can assure you that it will be worth the wait.

The good news is that a very pleasing alternate has been assigned the spot in the IGC that DRIVECLUB has left open – ContrastCompulsion Games‘ surreal, film noir puzzle platformer Contrast is one of the many high-quality indie titles coming to the PlayStation 4. We had the chance to try out contrast back in August and it’s striking visuals and unique puzzles were very impressive. It’s a great addition to the Instant Game Collection. Furthermore, Sony is also offering an “Open Weekend” trial of Killzone Shadow Fall on December 28-29

Delays are always disappointing, but were in the midst of a very volatile time for Sony and Microsoft. The new console generation means that the hardware and software need to deliver on expectations. This is evidenced by Ubisoft’s recent delay of Watch_Dogs and The Crew that sent their stock into a downturn. We’ll keep you updated with any additional news pertaining to DRIVECLUB.
