Rumor: Sony To Reveal PS4 Virtual Reality Headset At TGS 2013

The PlayStation 4 is heading our way November 15th, but Sony may have yet another announcement for the 2013 Tokyo Game Show. CVG is reporting that Sony will reveal a virtual reality headset tied to the PS4 later this month at TGS 2013.

The report also states that first party software developer Evolution Studios is already working with the device for possible Drive Club integration. Based on our recent hands on time with the racing sim, a VR headset may go a long way in giving the title a let up over it’s superior competitor, Forza 5.

It’s said that the headset will be sold separately from the PlayStation 4 and that Sony is currently weighing it’s options on how integral they want the peripheral to be to the overall PS4 experience. Sony has a currently available product called the HMZT-2 3D Viewer, and it’s currently unknown if this report is tied to that product.

If the rumor ends up panning out, we could be looking at another gimmicky situation. The reality is that Oculus Rift has a decided head start in the VR territory, both in terms of developers and public interest. Sony will have to influence it’s supporters towards adoption and that could cost countless marketing dollars in the long run.
