Capcom Says Street Fighter V May Be Coming 2018 – No Joke
In a chat with VG247, Tomonaki Ayano detailed how long you will have to keep playing updated versions of Street Fighter IV, like the recently announced Ultra. The producer stated,
“Game development is a long and arduous process,” he continued. “If you look at the history of the series, it took six years to go from Street Fighter II to Street Fighter III, and nine years to go from Street Fighter III to Street Fighter IV. Purely based on that it would probably take us until the year 2018 before Street Fighter V comes out. So I hope everyone will play Ultra Street Fighter IV for a long time.”
The type of balance and precise mechanics necessary to create the worlds most popular fighting game take time to create. Street Fight IV has seen it’s share of ups and downs, but it’s widely agreed upon that it’s the pinnacle of competitive fighting games. Two major updates to Street Fighter IV have already been released with additional characters, game modes, and balancing tweaks. Super Street Fighter IV and Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition both saw their release in 2010 and the newest update, Ultra Street Fighter IV is expected in 2014.
