Trailer Tuesday #14

Trailer Tuesday!

That’s right, iGR‘s Trailer Tuesday is back! After a week hiatus (there just weren’t enough trailers to show), I’m back to bringing you the best film trailers on the internet! This week features a couple films that I’ve been dying to see since I heard about them. I also included a trailer for a film that I may or may not see, depending on how much I hate John Cusack! Anyways, enough of the rambling, let’s watch some trailers!

THE WOLF OF WALL STREET – Just to give you a little insight into how I set this up, I wasn’t quite sure if I should save this trailer for last or start with it. As you can tell I started with it because I don’t trust you hooligans not to stop watching halfway through this thing and you’ll want to see this trailer because you’ll need to watch this film! It’s not quite what I expected when I heard that Leonardo DiCaprio (Inception) and Martin Scorcese (Goodfellas) were teaming together once again but the it still looks fantastic! Rounding out the cast is Matthew McConaughey (Magic Mike), Jonah Hill (Superbad) and Kyle Chandler (Friday Nights Lights TV). The Wolf of Wall Street opens in theaters on November 15, 2013.

RUNNER, RUNNER – I have to admit to looking forward to this film for quite awhile. I was pleasantly surprised with how good The Lincoln Lawyer was so when I heard that the director’s next film happened to feature a cast like Ben Affleck (Argo), Justin Timberlake (The Social Network), Ben Schwartz (House of Lies), Gemma Arterton (Quantum of Solace) and Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker), I was intrigued. This trailer does nothing to dissuade me from that interest and I can’t wait to see it when it opens in theaters on September 27, 2013.

GETAWAY – I’m going to be honest and say that I really only included this trailer to talk about how bad it looks. Ethan Hawke (Training Day) is a good actor but he hasn’t exactly been lighting the world on fire lately and I don’t think signing up for a film that’s just a re-hash of The Transporter and Drive will ultimately change that. Adding to that, Selena Gomez (Spring Breakers) just looks completely miscast and her weaknesses as an actress are pretty obvious in just the trailer. Still, some may disagree with me about this so go ahead and go see it when it hits theaters on August 30, 2013.

THE FROZEN GROUND – From an adult film with one formerĀ Disney starlet to another, at least this trailer doesn’t show how bad of an actress that Vanessa Hudgens (Spring Breakers) may or may not be. That said, it does feature my arch nemesis (I think he’s pretty awful) John Cusack (High Fidelity) as a serial killer so I’ll probably see it as like some sort of wish-fulfillment thing. Then again, the cop after him is played by Nicolas Cage (National Treasure franchise) so I have my doubts as to how good of film it’ll actually end up being. Anyways, if you’re interested in it you check it out when it’s released on August 23, 2013.

THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG – I’m thoroughly indifferent towards The Hobbit so this isn’t exactly something I’m as excited about compared to the rest of the internet but the first trailer for the second installment is kind of a big deal so alas, here we are. Starring Martin Freeman (Hot Fuzz), Luke Evans (Fast & Furious 6), Benedict Cumberbatch (Star Trek Into Darkness) and Ian McKellan (original X-Men trilogy), The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug opens in theaters on December 13, 2013.

MAGIC MAGIC – I included this one just because of how against type Michael Cera (Superbad) is in this. The film itself looks like fairly boilerplate horror/thriller but it’s nice to see Cera in a role that isn’t just a soft-spoken nice guy. Also starring Juno Temple (The Dark Knight Rises) and Emily Browning (Sucker Punch), the film should be available now on VOD and retail.

300: RISE OF AN EMPIRE – Admittedly I’m really only looking forward to this to see how Sullivan Stapleton (Strike Back) does in a big role because I’m a big fan of the Strike Back series on Cinemax. Other than that, the idea of a sequel to 300 just doesn’t appeal to me that much. That said, I will say that this trailer did do some of its job to convince me that it may be worth seeing for more than just my previous reason. Also starring Lena Headey (300) and Eva Green (Casino Royale), the film opens in theaters on March 7, 2014.

THE TO DO LISTAubrey Plaza (Parks & Recreation) is on the precipice of becoming a star and The To Do List is the film that will try to get her there. Having crafted a following for her extremely hilarious deadpan character April on Parks & Rec, Plaza is now taking the leap to leading lady. Granted, the leap is to a sex comedy but just ask Michael Cera how that can help your career. Part of what makes this film looks so fun is the sheer amount of comedic talent in it. The cast reads as a who’s who of gifted comedians so we would be here all day listing them but I will say that Bill Hader (Saturday Night Live) seems to steal the show just by the trailer alone. The To Do List opens in theaters on July 28, 2013.

That’s all for this week! In case you missed it, check out my weekly FNN article but unfortunately there’s no TVNN this week. That’s okay though because you can always follow me on Twitter @kyle_igr and the site itself @igresponsibly!
