Is This The PlayStation 4’s Standard Headset?

One of the largest qualms gamers had with the Playstation 3 was it’s absence of a ‘party chat’ feature. The console shipped without a headset of any kind, and the PSN being a free service, most likely lacked the ability to handle cross-game chat.

This time Sony is shipping an earbud style headset with their Playstation 4 console. It’s a simple, versatile design that won’t restrict the player in any way. The headset features a clip that attaches the microphone to your clothing to keep the cord out of the way. The design may come as a surprise to many, but the silver lining here is that it appears any three pole style headset will be compatible. It’s also been confirmed the PS4 will feature cross-game chat, a huge improvement on the PS3’s chat feature.

This time around Sony will be requiring a Playstation Plus membership to game online, and it’s likely said funds will be funneled directly into the quality of the PS4‘s online service. It’s known that the Playstation 4 won’t support backwards compatibility with games, but will PS3 accessories ie. Sony brand wireless headsets retain compatibility with the PS4? We’ve reached out to Sony for confirmation on this question, and will let everyone know once we receive a response.

What do you think of the PS4 headset? How about the inclusion of cross-game chat?
