Trailer Tuesday #13
Welcome to a special Wednesday edition of iGR‘s Trailer Tuesday! As I explained in TVNN earlier, I’ve been a bit under the weather lately so I apologize for basically turning this into Trailer Wednesday but what are you gonna do? Anyways, this week features some fairly subdued films as opposed to any summer blockbusters but they look like solid films nonetheless. Let’s get to it, shall we?
Closed Circuit – Eric Bana (Munich) is an extremely underrated actor so I’m always intrigued by any project with his named attached to it. Add the fact that Steven Knight (Eastern Promises) wrote this film and that interested increases tenfold. Well, the trailer didn’t disappoint. I’m a fan of espionage films in general but global conspiracies are fun too! The film also stars Rebecca Hall (Iron Man 3) and Ciaran Hinds (Munich). It opens in theaters on August 28, 2013.
Prisoners – The script for this film made the 2009 Black List so it’s no wonder it has attracted big name talent like Hugh Jackman (The Prestige), Jake Gyllenhaal (Donnie Darko), Paul Dano (Looper), Maria Bello (A History of Violence), Terrance Howard (Hustle & Flow), Viola Davis (The Help) and Melissa Leo (The Fighter). It opens in theaters on September 20, 2013.
The Family – A film directed by Luc Besson (The Fifth Element) and produced by Martin Scorcese (The Departed)? That sounds pretty damn awesome to me! The trailer certainly doesn’t disappoint as it just looks like a ton of fun. Not to mention that it looks like Robert De Niro (Goodfellas) likes acting again! Joining him in the fun is Michelle Pfeifer (Scarface), Tommy Lee Jones (No Country for Old Men) and Dianna Agron (Glee). Prisoners has some tough competition as The Family opens in theaters on September 20, 2013.
Paranoia – This film has been on my radar for awhile now, in part because of Gary Oldman‘s (The Dark Knight trilogy) involvement. Like I mentioned before, I’m a fan of espionage in general but corporate espionage is something that hasn’t been covered that much so it’s always nice to see a film about it. Also starring Harrison Ford (Indiana Jones franchise), Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games) and Amber Heard (Pineapple Express), Paranoia opens in theaters on August 16, 2013.
Short Term 12 – Brie Larson (21 Jump Street) is a rising star. After a string of small roles in cult hits like Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and Rampart, Larson broke out in a big way with 21 Jump Street. Since then, she’s in the process of making sure she isn’t typecast in comedic films as she’s signed on for a variety of different roles, none more challenging than in Short Term 12. The trailer doesn’t exactly give you a clear picture of what’s going on but it does allow you to see just how talented Larson is. It opens in theaters on August 23, 2013.
