2013-14 Upfront Presentations: The CW
The last of the “Big 5” networks, The CW, is next up in our coverage of the 2013-14 Upfront Presentations. The CW has been undergoing a significant change in the type of programming they air for the last few years, going from nothing but teen soaps to shows that are more sci-fi oriented (though still hold some of the soapy elements). In truth, The CW is probably the second most stable network right now because like CBS, The CW knows what it does and it does it well. They’re not perfect (they stumbled with most of their new shows this past season as well) but they’re in a relatively strong position, if for no other reason than they don’t have to program as many hours as the other networks.
This year features some shuffling around but the networks two big staples, Arrow and The Vampire Diaries, are staying in their current timeslots. The biggest change comes from veteran Supernatural moving from Wednesdays to Tuesdays, which means they’re only one move to Mondays away from having been on each day of the week for the network since the show’s inception in 2005. The other notable move is Sex and the City prequel The Carrie Diaries moving to Fridays to be paired with America’s Next Top Model.
