Trailer Tuesday #9
Well look at that, it’s Tuesday and you know that means here at iGR: Trailer Tuesday! Yep, I’m back again with the week’s best film trailers. This week features some upcoming blockbusters but also a couple of under-the-radar films that more people should know about. So without further ado…
Fast & Furious 6 – While this trailer doesn’t really show a whole lot that the previous trailers didn’t already show, it does provide a bit more info on the film’s villain played by Luke Evans (The Raven). The sixth installment of the Fast & Furious franchise sees the return of most of the cast from Fast Five (naming them all would just take too long), as well as the return of Michelle Rodriguez (Avatar) and the addition of Gina Carano (Haywire). It opens in theaters on May 24, 2013.
RED 2 – The sequel to 2010’s surprise hit RED, features the return of Bruce Willis (Die Hard franchise), John Malkovich (Burn After Reading), Mary-Louise Parker (Weeds) and Helen Mirren (The Queen) with newcomers Catherine Zeta-Jones (Chicago) and Anthony Hopkins (Silence of the Lambs). It opens in theaters on July 19, 2013.
Pacific Rim – This film is definitely very high on my list of most anticipated films of 2013 (I will expand on this at a later date) and this trailer just cements that. I’m a big fan of Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy franchise) so it was a no-brainer I’d be intrigued but the trailers so far have been pretty great at showing just enough to get me excited but not too much where everything is painfully obvious. The cast features a who’s who of TV stars including Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy), Charlie Day (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), Ron Perlman (Sons of Anarchy) and Idris Elba (The Wire). It opens in theaters on July 12, 2013.
Prince Avalanche – The interesting thing about this film is that it was filmed without anybody even knowing about it until after the fact. That’s happened twice recently (Joss Whedon‘s Much Ado About Nothing is the other) and it’s just incredibly surprising given today’s social media obsessed world. That said, featuring a cast of just two people makes it a pretty easy to do that. Based on a 2011 Icelandic film and written/directed by David Gordon Green (Pineapple Express), this film is, perhaps, completely different than what most people would expect of a guy who directed that aforementioned stoner flick but for those who are familiar with Gordon Green’s entire body of work (as I am), it’s not surprising. On a related note, if you have a chance, check out his 2007 film Snow Angels, it’s tremendous. The film stars Paul Rudd (This Is 40) and Emile Hirsch (Into the Wild). It opens in theaters on August 9, 2013.
The East – This film is another that’s incredibly high on my must-see list of 2013 even though it’s not a huge, summer blockbuster. I’m just incredibly intrigued by the premise and the talent around the film. It stars Brit Marling (The Company You Keep), Alexander Skarsgard (True Blood), Ellen Page (Juno), Toby Kebbell (RocknRolla), Shiloh Fernandez (Evil Dead 2013), Aldis Hodge (Leverage) and Patricia Clarkson (Friends With Benefits) and opens in theaters on May 31, 2013.
That’s it for this week, folks! Just a little heads-up, due to some technical difficulties (computer being dumb) this week’s TVNN will be up tomorrow. In the mean time, you can check out yesterday’s FNN here and don’t forget to follow me on Twitter @kyle_igr and the site @igresponsibly!
