Square Enix Layoffs Affect UK and European Operations
Square Enix has continued it’s restructuring after Yoichi Wada’s departure as CEO. The layoffs are due to several titles not meeting lofty sales expectations. The initial round of redundancies hit the U.S. and Square’s troubles have now headed across the pond. 2013 continues to be a treacherous year for the video game industry.
This is an injustice to the U.K. studio. Sleeping Dogs was 2012’s best selling new IP, Hitman: Absolution was in the top five of best selling games in 2012, and 2013’s Tomb Raider reboot is the highest selling game in the U.K. thus far.
iGR hopes that all affected land on their feet ASAP.
