Some of the results are trickling in from THQ’s legacy IP auction. One of the first confirmations comes from Gearbox Software, and their successful acquisition of the Homeworld IP. Many gamers were hoping the IP would be heading Sega’s way for Relic to develop, but the notorious Duke Nukem Forever and Aliens: Colonial Marines developer won the bidding.

Gearbox has released this subsequent statement outlining their intentions with the Homeworld franchise:

Brian intends as first priority to direct Gearbox’s interest to preserve and assemble the purest form of the original acclaimed and beloved games, Homeworld and Homeworld 2, with the intent of making them accessible on today’s leading digital platforms.

You can head over to the official Gearbox site for more details, and to express your feelings in their forum.
