Disney Closes The Doors On LucasArts
We recently reported on a XBLA title called Star Wars: First Assault. The project LucasArts and Free Radical were working on was said to be a tie in to Battlefront 3. When I personally posted this news to a forum I frequent, the first comment was simply the term “vaporware”, and it turns out that was a fact rather than an assumption.
A representative with LucasArts reached out to Game Informer to let them know Disney was laying off the staff, and passed along this official statement from Disney:
“After evaluating our position in the games market, we’ve decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company’s risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games. As a result of this change, we’ve had layoffs across the organization. We are incredibly appreciative and proud of the talented teams who have been developing our new titles.”
Another run of bad news in gaming today. Our thoughts go out to all those affected. This comes just after the announcement Square Enix had begun it’s Corporate Restructuring.
