Microsoft Illumiroom Revealed at CES
Microsoft and Xbox 360 showed off a new trailer for the Illumiroom patent that was just recently filed for. Illumiroom harnesses the power of Kinect to project an image behind your display. This effectively extends the display and works to fill your periphery to immerse you into the action.
It’s likely that this functionality will be present on the next generation Xbox code named Durango. It’s a fantastic idea that could revolutionize the way video game imagery is presented by developers. One interesting use of this technology is ambient lighting. Not exactly extending the image present on the screen but, instead using the color tone to project ambient lighting on the wall to enhance the overall mood.
